Established by the Legislature in 2007, the College Bound Scholarship program was created to provide financial assistance to low-income students who want to achieve the dream of a college education.

The scholarship is available to 7th and 8th grade students who are eligible for the free and reduced price lunch (FRPL) program, are in foster care, or whose family's income meets the guidelines. The deadline to sign up is June 30 of students' 8th grade year.

The College Bound Scholarship is an early commitment of state funding. The scholarship covers the average tuition (at comparable colleges), some fees, and a small book allowance.

It's already time to make preparations for next year, including the election of new officers.  We will hold elections for 2014-2015 PTSA officers at our final general meeting on May 13 at 7:00 pm in the Highland library.

The Nominating Committee places in nomination the following for 2014-2015:

President:

Rabecca Larson

Vice President:

Brook Rose

Treasurer:

Dana Stoneman

Secretary:

Misty McIlraith

Respectfully submitted by the Nominating Committee:
Misty McIlraith, Rabecca Larson, and Ingrid Goodman

We have a number of chair positions to fill for next year as well.
If you'd like to learn more about serving in a committee chair position, please ask any board member or send us an e-mail any time.  We need your time and talents to build on our success each year!  PTA offers excellent training and support for you as a volunteer, and provides valuable experience for your resume or to help you achieve future goals.  Middle school PTSA requires less time than elementary, but we still need plenty of help to achieve our goals!  Take a look at our current list, and you'll see that we have positions open now, as well as for next year.  Consider joining us!

We are also participating in the Be the Bridge Book Drive, which supports summer reading for younger students.  Do you have any old books that are just gathering dust on your shelf? Please donate them to the Be the Bridge Book Drive.

Many students don't have access to books over the summer, which contributes to "summer slide" and hinders learning over the break. You can help by donating books, which will be sent home with students over the summer and given to students at summer schools.
This drive is in support of the BSD/Eastside Pathways initiative to have students reading at grade level by grade 3.

There is a collection box located in the main office, or you may drop off contributions during our book swap.
