Established by the Legislature in 2007, the College Bound Scholarship program was created to provide financial assistance to low-income students who want to achieve the dream of a college education.
The scholarship is available to 7th and 8th grade students who are eligible for the free and reduced price lunch (FRPL) program, are in foster care, or whose family's income meets the guidelines. The deadline to sign up is June 30 of students' 8th grade year.
The College Bound Scholarship is an early commitment of state funding. The scholarship covers the average tuition (at comparable colleges), some fees, and a small book allowance.
It's already time to make preparations for next year, including the election of new officers. We will hold elections for 2014-2015 PTSA officers at our final general meeting on May 13 at 7:00 pm in the Highland library.
